A BRIEF HISTORY

The 1st American Hung Sing Kwoon was originally established in the early 1920's and was founded by Professor Lau Bun who is credited with many titles such as America's first Gung Fu teacher, founder of the oldest and longest running gung fu schools in the U.S.A. as well as the first pioneer of the Choy Lee Fut system here  as well.

This branch of Choy Lee Fut was originally founded by Jeong Ah Yim (1814-1893) in 1839 in the city of Fut San, China.  Today his school is recognized as the longest running school of its time.  He was one of the strongest and most trusted disciples of Choy Lee Fut co-founder Chan Heung.  He branched out on his own and began to develop and refine the gung fu he learned from Chan Heung, and Ching Cho Wo Serng (Green Grass Monk), much to like the way Chan Heung went on to create his own Choy Lee Fut.

Jeong Yim taught many thousands of students in his life time, and one of the most enigmatic was Mastet Yuen Hai who was one of Jeong Yim's more senior students.  Master Yuen was married to a well known northern martial artist.  FIrst Master Yuen then followed by Yuen Hai Si-Mo, together they had a hand in Professor Lau Bun's training.

Professor Lau Bun -because of his illegal resident status-kept in the background up unitl his death in 1967.  At that point his senior student Jew Leong took over as the next successor to the Hung Sing Kwoon.  Professor Jew Leong started training in the Hung Sing Choy Lee Fut system at the age of 14 in 1941 and continued to train under Lau Bun until his sifu's death.  In 1995 he finally decided to fully retire and passed the Hung SIng name on to his most notable student, Grand Master Dino Salvatera who has been a disciple of his since 1968.  Once Grand Master Salvatera took over the Hung SIng Kwoon he moved the school into his Kwoon which was built in the back of his home.
